Blood Pressure

0

I have not posted my blood pressure in a while. I have been taking and journaling it. So, today I decided to post it. It is close to one of my resolutions, which is to have my pressure be at or under 120/80 and a pulse at or under 50. Today it was 119/79 with a pulse of 52. I have a small graph of my progress.

New Road Bike

0

I have been wanting to have a road bike. I was talking to my friend Michael Sbihli, who just happen to be selling his older one. He wanted to purchase some very high end components, but his lovely wife Lauren is due with their first baby very soon and they are down to one income. This is a nice bike (look at the picture). It is a GT Fury and is a bit old, but one fine bike. It has flames painted on it, so it must be fast (grin).

I had my first ride this last Friday. I rode to work in the morning, it is about 10.5 mile. We have bike lockers at work, so I can lock up my bike, walk in to the lockerroom and showered, got dressed and complete my day then rode home. The ride home was better then the coming to work, (I think I am not good at exercise in the morning).

My speed is about four miles faster than my mountain bike. If may be due to me wanting to ride faster. See my results at my account with MotionBased .

Wellness Challenge – 31 miles for the week

0

This has been a disappointing week. I set out to hike 22 miles on Saturday. However, my right hip has flared up. I decided to postpone the hike until this Friday. Thirty one miles is a bit low in the Wellness Challenge, but I did not walk but 3 miles from Friday through Sunday.

I am afraid on my hip getting worst. On long walks it might shut down on me leaving me with some big pain. This last week believing the pain is inflammation, I started using Ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation, but I do not sense that it has any affect.

Wellness Challenge – 38 miles for the week

0

This week I had my 30 year High School reunion and I was unable to do any activity on Saturday my biggest mileage day. I was able to get in 38 miles of walking for the Wellness Challenge during the rest of the week. I did not hike or bike, so this is a lot of miles walking around town. On Thursday alone, I did 10.5 miles (trying to hit my weight target), I am encouraged by reaching my weight target and looking forward to the next. It is only about four pounds away.

Walking and walking

0

Tracy stated that I need to walk five miles a day, but not all at once. All my steps in the day count, I just had to make sure I walked the steps. At work we have a large hanger where we build DoD aircraft, it is 1100 long, 220 feet wide (twice) and there is a mark path for walking. In the first half of the day, I do two laps. Each lap is 1100 +1100 + 220 + 220 = 2,640 (half mile). the 220 feet wide twice is an additional 220 wider so each lap is actually 3080 feet. I do two laps. In the afternoon is another two laps. When I get home my dog and wife are excited to walk three miles, so each day I get five miles. It is longer than five, because I walk from area to area at work and 1/4 mile to and from the parking lot.

Meetings and accountable

1

I met with Tracy on the first week to become accountable. I needed to lost weight for my 30 year reunion and she is going to help. Healthwaves is her organization and it is new at our site at work. She did not have any of the forms so, she journaled on writing tablets. I stated my goal, and being 229 lbs at start and now 226, (yes I gained back 3 pounds, the effect of stopping low-carb diets). We calculated that I could lose from 1-2 pounds a week, if I walked 5 miles a day, at least 3 times a week. Set my meals to be between 1100-1500 calories a day.

Dieting and …

After the first week, I met Tracy who is our Healthwaves rep at work. Her job is help middle aged aerospace workers get/be fit. I work for NG and they have a gym, nurse, and health educators. I decided to have some personal coaching and be accountable to her. I meet with Tracy each Monday to define my goals and progress. Interesting that she is a niece to Pat and Jill Tanner on Jill’s side. The Tanner’s have been my home-school leaders for DCHEP for many years as we raise and educate our kids. They both now work for our church where Pat is our counseling and men’s pastor.

Being accoutable

I am 47 years old and feeling old. I recently returned from Oklahoma, at the end of March (for work) and got on the scale to weight myself. OMG, I was 229 lbs., I I am only 5-8. The heaviest in my like. I believed that one day, I would become fit, but it seemed that any day was not the right day to start. All of that was about to change. I got letter from my high school class reunion of 30 years that it was scheduled for the end of July. I had time to lose some weight. I wanted to lose 30 lbs. (to be under 200) for the reunion.
