Push-ups (Week 3, Day 3)
0I am more than halfway through my six week schedule to do 100 consecutive push-ups. Looking ahead it is starting to get really hard, I thought it was already. Today was five sets for a total of 124 push-ups. It did not kill me, because I eat breakfast and got over seven hours a sleep! Here are the results:
- Level 1 30 (30)
- Level 2 22 (22)
- Level 3 22 (22)
- Level 4 20 (20)
- Level 5 29 (30)
Doing the last level I am to push beyond the number to exhaustion, well one more push-up is all that there was.
Ride Home From Work
0Today’s ride was windy and humid. The heat was around 96 degrees. Overall, the ride speed my best average of 16.5MPH.
Ride to Work
0Today’s ride to work was nice. It was cool but a bit muggy. I rode pretty hard, but I expected my legs to be fresher. I did not ride last week, so they should have been fresher. Overall the average speed was 17.5MPH. I have a goal of 18, so I am getting close. What was nice, I seem not to find to many red lights.
Push-ups (Week 3, Day 2)
0Today I managed to complete my push-ups. A daily total of 112, (most to date by one). The sets were:
- 27
- 21
- 21
- 18
- 25
I also got one more for 26 on the last set, but 3/4 of a push-up does not count. Bummer.
Weekends Activities
0This weekend I was to run in a 5K run down in Playa del Rey (for lung cancer, called First Giving 5K). I did not make it, not that I was not willing, but my right calf is still giving me problems. If fact, when I took my dog to the local dog park yesterday, I just did a simple jog with him, and that hurt it even more, damn. I do not like taking this long to heal, mostly, since I only re-hurt it last Sunday, in my opinion not doing much anything to make it hurt.
So no riding, swimming, walking. It was a total bummin’ weekend. The only thing I accomplished was to do 6 chin-ups (working to my goal of 10). Last week, I was infected with a virus and I spend this weekend reinstalling my applications and settings. It was nice to be a bum… Hopefully, I will not like that much and want stay a bum.
Push-ups (Week 2 Day 3)
0Today is the sixth day of doing push-ups. The goal is 100 consecutive push-ups. Today did not go so well. Tracy watched me fail at reaching the same number of push-ups as two days ago.
I was to do the following:
- 30 (29)
- 22 (17)
- 22 (17)
- 20 (15)
- 17 (14)
The goal is to the left and the actuals are on the right. I missed every goal for all five sets. I was do a total of 121 push-ups, but only did 92. That is off by 29 of the goal. The biggest reason must have been that I did not eat at all during the day. It also accounts for my mood swings. I guess I need to eat if I am going to preform.
3 Millionth Steps
0I have been walking virtually across America as one of my fitness goals. I started counting my steps on January 21st using a pedometer (model Omron HJ-112) and recording my results in a website called, walkertracker. Each day I enter my steps, both types total and aerobic. Aerobic steps start to be counted when 10 minutes of consistent walking and over 100 steps a minute are obtained. The goal to walk across America starts at the Santa Monica Pier in California to continues to Jacksonville, Florida.
As of today, I recorded my three millionth step or 3,000,454 which translate to 1,468.0 miles. Some other facts, the most steps in one day is 46,601 (hiking in Yosemite) and least amount of steps is 743 in one day when I sitting on my butt with my soft cast on my calf muscle.
My daily average is 15,960 steps for each day. As a simple calculation, 2,000 steps equals one mile or an average of eight miles a day.
Push-ups (Day 5)
0Today is the fifth day of doing push-ups, working up to my goal of 100 push-ups in a row. I managed to do all of them, but it about killed me. The sets were
- 25
- 17
- 17
- 15
- 25 (26)
The rest period was 90 seconds. The total push-ups for the day was 100. That is 10 more than Friday’s total.
- Day one was 50;
- Day two was 71;
- Day three was 77;
- Day four was 90, should have been 99.
Run at Balboa Island
0Our friend Hope and her Daughter Amanda are visiting Southern California for a conference. The conference let out at noon on Sunday. It would be fun to spend the day with them at Teri’s favorite place (her family owned a house on the Balboa Island, many years ago). So, at the beach, sounded like a great place to run. I planned to run around the entire island.
I warmed up, stretched a little and walked up Marine Avenue to the north side of the island and started running. I ran about 1-1/4 mile when I saw Teri talking to a local on the south side of the island. I stopped running to be introduced and after a little time, started back up running to the little side of the island. I went over the bridge at the canal, and made a right turn to get back to the walk. My right calf, said stop! It really started hurting. I stopped running, and walked the remaining part, with a small limp. I cooled down and went out to lunch with the ladies. After lunch we went shopping.
Teri gave the tour of the island as we walked around, my calf was getting tired, finished up and we drove home. There is still some soreness, but not that bad. I will monitor it and see what it does. I plan to run a 5K this weekend, so I will have to be light on it for this part of the week.
From Garmin Training Center, I have these 1/4 mile laps. I am glad for these times. I have wanted to run under 9:00 mile and for most of this, I did it (until I got hurt).
- Lap 1 – 9:01/mi
- Lap 2 – 8:44/mi
- Lap 3 – 8:52/mi
- Lap 4 – 8:58/mi
- Lap 5 – 8:44/mi
- Lap 6 – 9:07/mi
Today’s Run
0I was unable to run in the morning. Teri and I were helping some friends move. So, in the afternoon, I wanted to strap on my Garmin Foot Pod (thanks Tracy) and do some treadmill work inside the house to avoid the 100 degree heat. I have not been on the treadmill since I was in Las Vegas, where I re-hurt my calf.
I set out to do:
- 1/4 mile at 3.0 MPH (walk) warm up pace;
- 1/4 mile at 4.0 MPH (walk) continue the warm up;
- One mile at 6.0 MPH;
- 1/4 mile at 4.0 MPH;
- 1/2 mile at 6.0 MPH;
- 1/4 mile at 7.0 MPH;
- 1/4 mile at 3.0 MPH to cool down.
I want to improve my speed, so this 7.0 felt good. In a little while, I plan to move that up to 8.0, but maybe in a week or so. My calf is talking to me, since the run last Thursday.
I did learn that non-GPS data, like using a foot pod will not load in Motionbase. I had to load it into Training Center. That is not my favorite application, but I got a chance to review it.
