5K Best to Date (around the house)

0

I ran my best time at 5K since returning to running. Last Christmas in the Jingle Bell Jog, I managed to run 29:09. Tonight I ran and finished my run in 29:29. Tonight is my best time running in the neighborhood. The times were 32:17 (6:12/KM), 30:20 (06:01/KM), 29:46 (05:56/KM) and 29:29 (05:53/KM). I am aiming to get my time to 05:30 per KM before the City of Palmdale 1K,5K, 10K Run/ Walk on November 8th.

Run 5K

I manage not to run the Magic Mountain 5K, due to a schedule conflict, but run 5K on my own around the block. I had to walk way to many times. I limit my walking to 10 seconds. When I done, I expected my time to be so bad that I would not want to post it. But to my surprise I did it in 29:45. The best yet!

Ride to Get Ready for the AV Fall Century

1

I got out on a cold morning. I wanted to ride some 60 plus miles. The weather was cold at the start 60 degree (17 C). The wind was up about 30 miles an hour. It took me two hours to get to the top of Munz Ranch Road. Since, the wind was up, I decided to ride up in to the hills, thinking it would protect me, WRONG. It was worst. It got so cold and rainy. If it was not for my wind breaker, I would have called it off. I rode for 3:40 hours to get 44 miles (71km). My plans changed, I really wanted to ride to Three-points and back in to town, but rode back down to Highland and home. The weather killed that. If the weather is bad for the AV Fall Century, I am not so in shape to do 100 miles (which I have never done).

What was really cool was watching the Furnace Creek 508 rides going past me in the other direction. They ride 508 miles! Wow… The winner did it in about 27 hours.

5K Run Around the House

I been trying to run 5K (3.1 miles) and have found the correct distance. I run from my driveway up 20th Street West, to H1, turn right. I go to 15th Street to Avenue I, weave back to the house and run past it. Ending at Starbucks.

This run took me 30:20 or 6:01 page per KM.

Ride in Prep for AV Fall Century

0

To get ready for the AV Fall Century, I wanted to get out and ride some 50 plus miles. For this ride, I was jointed by Dave Schoder and a friend of his. The ride started out late 9:30 and we rode for 3.25 hours and rode 52 miles (82.80 km). We rode up Avenue G to 90th, over to Willow Springs and up to Backus road and down.

5 km Run Through the Neighborhood

I was looking today to run another 5km (matching Saturday’s run). I told Tracy that I want to knock off 30 seconds from the total time. I found a path to take that is close to a 5km. It is actually 5.2km, which included that I ran a little extra to make sure I got the distance. I ran from my garage door down my street, turn right on 20th Street west and run to H1, turn right. I make a right on 15th Street West and turn right near Avenue I, then weaver through the back way to my house. I pass my house and run to Starbucks.

My time was 6:19 per KM on Saturday and 6:12 per KM today. So that is seven second per km, I ran five, so that is 35 seconds faster then Saturday.

Ride – Home from Work

This was not an exciting ride. I got from work to home in 38 minutes for a distance of 16.57km (10.4 miles). The ride seem hard and the wind was up. I just felt tired. The overall speed average was 26.1 kph (16.21 mph).

Ride to Work

It was cool this morning and it was dark. This is the first ride that I had to use my head lamp. Being cool and such, it was hard to get going. I did not petal that hard because my legs felt heavy. Overall, I did about 16.2 MPH average.

Run – Lake Buena Vista Bakersfield

1

My church had a weekend camping event. We met at Lake Buena Vista in Bakersfield. On Saturday afternoon, I decided to go for a run, I did not sleep well being the first night. I wanted to run a 5K, but I have not run that distance in sometime. I am planning to run a couple of 5K’s coming up, so I need the distance. Since we brought our dog “Mr. Chip”, with us camping and he is a way too excited with all the people and other dogs, I decided to take him with me. I do not like to run with my dog, since on occasion he will dart in front of me and I have to slow down or stop. He was not so bad this time. I wanted him to run and hopefully be tired and that would mellow him out. BTW, It did not help him.

The run took me 31:23 to run the 5K. I wanted a slow pace and I got it. The pace was good for me. I ran the first 1/3 on a concrete path, the other 2/3′s I ran on grass and dirt. The run was not too hard and I am not sore. Tuesday night, I hope to run that distance again.

Ride – Godd, Lake Elizabeth, Highland, back to Clay’s House

I got a chance to ride with Clay Patten on Sunday morning before church. He likes to do hills, and I like going down hills. He hammers the up hills, while I just prod alone. He is about 30 lbs lighter and much stronger, so it is good for me to be challenged. Overall, the ride was very good. It felt good. I was tired after and that is all good. We rode about 25m/39km in 1:38. The weather was perfect. I wish all of my rides were this comfortable.

I recently tried to change my cranks from 182mm to 172.5mm, but there appears not so easy to get. My bike is over 10 years old and the bracket is funky. What I did not think about was just changing my small front chainring. I plan to make that change. That should help me with less torque and more cadence. I noticed when I was riding behind Clay, his cadence was higher when he was on his third cog off his granny gear, while I was on my granny.
