I signed up to ride in the Antelope Valley Fall Century. The ride is Saturday, October 20 at 07:00 AM at Gil’s Bike Shop in Lancaster CA. There are three rides:

New Goals

With the completion of hiking Mt. Whitney, I have been looking at some new fitness goals. My friend Clay (who is of many things is a runner and Physical Therapist) asked me if I wanted to particiate in the Los Angeles Marathon? I could today walk it under eight or nine hours. I am not yet a runner (want to be), so I said yes. I will be starting to learn to run. I do not know at this time how much of the LAM I will run, but currently, I am aiming at 1/4 of the distance. I have five months to prepare.

I also want to bike a century (100 miles), and I will continue to ride during the winter months. I want to learn how to accomplish this distance, so I am reading all I can. The distance on my legs is not my main concern. I am more concerned about sitting in the saddle that long.

Bike Ride – 27.5 Miles

Being Labor Day, I decided to wake up early for a laborous ride. I just got my road bike and I am still getting use to it. Not to over do it, I wanted to ride some 20-30 miles before the heat. I left at 6:30am and rode 27.5 miles around town. It was kinda of tiring, but that may be due to being morning. I am not a morning person. See the results from my ride at motionbased.com

New Road Bike

I have been wanting to have a road bike. I was talking to my friend Michael Sbihli, who just happen to be selling his older one. He wanted to purchase some very high end components, but his lovely wife Lauren is due with their first baby very soon and they are down to one income. This is a nice bike (look at the picture). It is a GT Fury and is a bit old, but one fine bike. It has flames painted on it, so it must be fast (grin).

I had my first ride this last Friday. I rode to work in the morning, it is about 10.5 mile. We have bike lockers at work, so I can lock up my bike, walk in to the lockerroom and showered, got dressed and complete my day then rode home. The ride home was better then the coming to work, (I think I am not good at exercise in the morning).

My speed is about four miles faster than my mountain bike. If may be due to me wanting to ride faster. See my results at my account with MotionBased .

Wellness Challenge – 48 miles for the week

0

I mentioned in an earlier post that my work is having Wellness Challenge. It is a 50 miles in 10 weeks to qualify for a patch. The top ten milers from each team are summed up and the team with the most miles in 10 weeks wins. Last week I was part of the top ten (coming in at 7th place) with 32 miles and our team was ahead. The miles are walking/hiking/biking (3/1) and other forms of walking, like treadmill and elliptical trainer. I did 51 miles on the bike on Saturday which counts as 17 (each bike mile is 1/3 a walking mile) and 31 normal walking miles during the week.

Bike Ride – 51 miles

For the Wellness competition at work every third bike mile counts as one walk mile. I decided to get up early (leaving the house at 5:30am) to ride up to Willow’s Springs area (90th) and continue up to Backus Road in Mojave. Ride over to Sierra Highway and back down to home. Over all it was close to 51 miles. For the competition that would count as 17 miles.
