Blogging, WordCampLA
0Wow, summer is over. It is September and we are back to normal hours and home schooling and the likes. I am looking forward to the routine. This year I am working with my 14 year old, daughter Hannah with Math and Photography, part of my routine is to improve my skills and WordPress is no exception. I listened to a podcast about WordCamps and tried to find a local one. There is no local when you live in Lancaster, so local is Los Angeles. Being that the location of the Camp would be at Loyola Marymount. I emailed my friend Conrad and asked if he would be interested in attending. Well, I have not seen Conrad in over 10 years or so. It was good to get caught up. He is one of my favorite geeks.
WordCampLA is a geek feast for people who use WordPress or the software that allows you to read this blog. It is good to hang out with some geeks, normally I hang with Aerospace, so it was refreshing. Search for tweets with hashtag #WordCampLA.

22 mile ride
0Getting my large self out on the bike, I cycled about 22 miles. I rode from the house to 110th West. It is a normal ride for me. The wind was up, but not too hot.
Here is my garmin data.
I took a little side trip to go by Fox field to watch the fire fighting airplanes land and take off.

Out of Control
0I have been lazy and out of control with eating, drinking and sitting on my butt. Wow, I decided to recommit myself to some sense of self-control.
I went out and purchased a scale, one that does it all. I purchased the Homedics 540 Health Station. I put in my vitals and stepped on. Here is the scary details:
- 210 lbs (with clothes)
- 36.8% Body Fat
- 44.8% Water
- 32.5 Muscle Mass
- 2.8% Bone Density
So, It is a starting point. I will post my results in the coming week.
Here is my activities calendar.
Performance – Video
0I like to cycle, so this video is a bit funny. It is a Rap Song for Cyclists. It is Performance by MC SpandX
Rode 27 miles or So on the Aqueduct
0Dave Schroeder, Chris Twogood and myself headed the Aqueduct for a ride at around 4:00pm on Sunday. Riding at the Aqueduct is nice and a bit hard. At least we got there in the afternoon, at this time some of the heat of the day was less. On the ride, the wind is the biggest issue. The wind whips up on the hills to make the wind more intense and it can be a tail wind and switch to a strong head wind in a blink of an eye. The overall speed of this ride is not high, mostly because of the wind and having to stop at each cross-street. At those streets which connect the Aqueduct the gates are locked. You have to stop, clip-out and lift your bike over the gate.
It was fun to ride with these guys. Look forward to riding with them soon.
Rode this morning for 21 miles
0I recieved a couple of weeks ago a new jersey and shorts. Dan Dunn from work, designed them. They are retro Northrop Grumman. Way cool. So, I was encouraged to get back on the bike. I have rode a little here and there in the last couple of weeks. About riding once a week. I will start up soon riding to and from work at least a couple of time during the work week.
This morning, I got and rode from my house to 110th west and back for a total of 21 miles with an average speed of 16 MPH. The wind was low in the beginning, but picked up. Also, I have using my GPS Garmin Forerunner 305. I usually upload the data to Motionbase. However, Garmin has been updating a new site connect.garmin.com to replace motionbase. Well, they finally moved my data to Connect. This is the first upload from my device to Connect. Check it out here.

50! Today is my Birthday
0Today, June 29th, I turned 50. It was a middle-aged-man’s goal to have lost some weight, but the opposite happened. I gained. So, today, I want to recommit by goal to drop from 210 lbs down to 185. May the calories go away.
