Blood Pressure

0

This is the first week that my blood pressure has the systolic and diastolic numbers as normal or lower. I went over to the nursing area this week to have it checked. This is a nice thing to have at work. I was pleasantly surprised with reading of 119 over 71 with a pulse of 57. These numbers are good for me. I am hoping for even better numbers in the months to come.

Breathing

0

One of the artifacts that I have been experiencing is slight side pain when I walk. It is mild, but still present. It is the pain is similar that you get when you are running and breathing hard. On today’s walk, I tried to synchronize my breathing to my steps. When I place my right foot is when I would start to exhale. On the other foot inhale. I even use my nose to breath. I am mouth breather about always, so the experience was awkward.

I did find myself not that coordinated and had to reset my breathing patterns. It may get easier after a few more walks. I did find that the side pain did go away.

Weight 17 down, 13 to go to first goal

0

I normally weight in on Monday at work, but it was Memorial Day and I had the day off. I use the same scale at work, (since different scales may very). So today, I weighted in at 213. I started on April 1, 2007 at 230 pounds. That is 17 pounds loss in under eight weeks. I feel that I have some water retention from extra salt (weekends are too social, and I eat more), so I expect to feel lighter in the week. I did all my expected fitness, such as: walking, biking, weight room, and the bleachers at the track.

Ride around Fox Field

0

Today being memorial day, I wanted to ride in the morning, before the wind. It has been windy every day 24/7, so at least I hoped for minimum wind. The wind was only 18 MPH, at the SW. I rode 14.66 miles in 1:13. I felt good on the ride. See the results at motionbased.

Highlights:

Posture

0

At work, our “fitness club”, named Wellness Center has some great staff. I talked with Julie, who teaches classes, like Yoga, Pilates, and some others. I chatted for sometime about things to help me. The most oblivious is my posture. I tend to lean and not stand up straight. As I talked to her trying not to lean, I found that it was hard to stay even on both legs flat footed. She mentioned that when I do the step-stepper to not hold on to the rails. I felt a little off balance for a few minutes, but found it much more comfortable. Also, she mentioned to remove the angle weights from my legs when I walk at home. Add weight at my shoulders, like in my pack. This is where it will be when I hike, so put it there.

Training Routine

0

I have been working out for over six weeks. To date I have settled into a routine. As a routine, I am trying to mixed up the assortment of things to keep this old body from settling in.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday – Weights and stair stepper, Weights are 15 reps, two sets. curls (combined weight) 100 lbs. Butterfly at 100 lb. Back crunches 160lbs, stomach crunches 140lbs, overhead pull (behind head), 125 lbs, bench press 135 lbs.

Step Stepping (new exercise) 40 floors. Adding 5 floors a session.

Walking 5-7 miles.

Tuesday, Thursday – Walking 5-7 miles, 15 sets of bleacher climbs. I walk down (vertigo issue).

Saturday – off or Hike 6-9 miles

Sunday – Hike 6 miles or walk three miles, if no activity on Saturday.
