My fitness goals for 2007:

(1) Weigh less than 200 pounds (I weighed 230 March 1, 2007). (reached July 27th, 2007)

(2) Weigh less than 196 pounds (to not be obese by BMI standards, only be “over weight”). (reached August 30th, 2007)

(3) Weigh less than 180 pounds (actual wife’s goal. That would be a 50 pound loss).

(4) Weigh in at 165 pounds (that is the weight when I was 25 years old). This would have me in BMI’s index as Normal.

(4) Blood Pressure at or below 120/80 and pulse of <= 50. (reached November 19th, 2007)

(5) Do 10 chin-ups.

(6) Run a 5K in under 40 minutes, did it once at 43 minutes. (obtained December 15th with a time of 29:08)

(7) Hike Mt Whitney in a day (September 20th). (obtained September 20th)

(8) That my chest is larger than my stomach.

Those are my fitness goals for the year. Wish me luck

Weight – level

I am disappointed this week with my weight. I did not lose any pounds nor gain any. I have a goal at 20 pound lost and so I have been at 19 for an extra week. I did a lot more fitness work this week. On Friday, I rode 30 miles (2.15 hrs), the most mileage since riding in my twenties. I hiked for 3.5 hrs on Sunday for eight miles. I did my stair stepping (85 floors), and pushed around some weights. Not to forget, I even did the bleachers (Tues/Thurs) at the college (20 ups and 20 downs. So, I am bummed and disappointed. I believe my eating is fine, I did have two spoonfuls of ice cream (not the bowl). The goal is 1900 calories a day and I know that I am close to that. I have been walking, near 5 miles a day, so, I hope the lack of loss is really some healing and extra water retention. I am sore in the knees (probably from the fall), or trying to sprint, (I am about to start softball, so I want to work on some speed), but I was really tired (physically) last night.

Knee – Ouch

0

When I was hiking on Sunday, I took my eyes off the trail to get out the way of up coming hikers. When I did that, I tripped over a rock and fell on my right knee. I got up quickly to show that I was not really hurt and got back on task to finish the hike. When I got home, I cleaned up the knee. It is mostly scrapes, but since a lot of nerve ending are on the skin, it really hurt for two days. Today, I do not notice it unless something brushes up against it, like my dogs tail trumping on it. The knee looks worst today as it is scabbed and has a red around each cut.

Slow Pitch Softball

I was asked by a friend at church (a couple of times) to play on a softball team. It is a dad and son league. I have no sons, but there are more sons than dad’s, so I guess I am OK. I used to play when I was single, some 20+ years ago. In fact, we were awesome. We were called, “The Fluffy Kitties of Death”. But that was a long, long, time ago. I been getting fit and it is time to add one more activity. Softball will add “speed” to the mix for me. I will have to re-learn how to run (as in sprint), and it will help my upper body (throwing and catching). I held off joining, because I felt that I would not help the team, but when my friend told me, he was pitching in one inning and gave up 34 runs, I knew I would fit in.

Today, I decided to take a longer bike ride. I thought I would ride for 16-20 miles, but instead I felt good and rode for a little over 30 miles. No wind, truly the best part. It was early and cool, even at the end I felt good, (that really surpised me). Here is my trip.
