Middle-Aged Man
Ride to Work
0This morning ride was nice, not much to report. I still did not get up to 18MPH. Here is the motionbase results.
Push-ups, Reassessment
0Today, I wanted to do a reassessment of my level with push-ups. I did again 42 or the same as last time. I am disappointed, plus I talked to Tracy about repeating the current week. This reconfirms that I should repeat. I am still sore from the Splash and Dash, so I figure this a good thing that I repeat.
Push-ups (Week 4, Day 3)
0This day on the schedule seemed easy, but it was not. I did not get a chance to do my push-ups at work, so I did them at home. Today there were eight sets to do and I did all in the seven set, but the last set I could not do them all. Total amount of push-ups were 132.
The results are:
- 18 (18)
- 18 (18)
- 16 (16)
- 16 (16)
- 14 (14)
- 14 (14)
- 12 (12)
- 40 (24)
Ride – From Work to Home?
0I had to pick up the 4-Runner from the auto repair place. It was just under 6 miles from work. I rode North and had the wind on West side. It was nice not having the head wind. The average speed was 19.7MPH. I liked it.
Ride from Home to Work
0Today’s ride was not very eventful, I just rode. My legs are tired, mostly, I believe from being stretched by Clay last night, (an owner of Valley Physical Therapy Group). He as a physical therapist is always concerned about my proper form, and proper balance. My hips are not doing the work and passing some of that work to other parts of my body. My calf injury is mostly likely due to the extra work they preform, so Clay wants me to stretch and do different execise, to help me find the proper balance. With that, he bent me and with the stretches I have been doing during the last week, my knees and hips have soreness from the rotation (stretch) of those parts. It will take a little time to acclimate the joints.
I rode an average of 17.4 MPH, still off from my goal, but I will get there. On the lights being red, require me to slow down (lowering my speed). While, I still run them when safe. My stopped time on my GPS is only one minute, so you guess, I am not “waiting” at red lights. One day, I will get pulled over.
Push-ups (Week 4, Day 2)
0The schedule today is longer and shorter reps. I was doing five sets, however, starting with today the sets are now eight. I figured starting at 20 reps for the first set would be easy, well not exactly. By the time I got to the eighth set, I was tired. Below, is the scheduled and results ( ):
- 20 (20)
- 20 (20)
- 18 (18)
- 18 (18)
- 15 (15)
- 15 (15)
- 14 (14)
- 40 (31)
As you can see, I did not finish with 40, but my max is 42 being fresh, so I did not have high expectations to reach it, but I tried. Overall, the total was scheduled at 160, but I did 151 push-ups. The day before, was 154 total, so I am a little off, but I think the change up in rep/sets is what caused the difference.
Ride Home From Work
0Riding home from work was hard. I am trying to push myself and get my overall speed up. To do so, is causing muscle burn. I like it when it is done, but it is tiring. I did 16.6 MPH average, which is the best to date. Overall it went well and I am pleased. When I got home, I was a sweaty mess. The heat was a little over 100 degrees and my breathing was up, but my heart rate was after the first mile at 140 and was increasing up to 165 beats per minute when finished.
Ride to Work
0Today’s ride to work, started out cool. I did not expect to have be so chilly. I rode well, but I did not get the time I wanted. When riding into work, I want to ride as a goal for an average of 18 MPH. Today, was 16.7! I blame the red stop signals. Today, I came up to 9 of the 12 lights as red lights. I usually do not stop and wait for a green light, I RUN them, unless, I will get run over. One thing that disturbs me is sitting at red lights when no one is else is around. Coming up to red lights, I do have to slow down and even stop. The slowing down lowers my average.
Push-ups (Week 4, Day 1)
0After taking Friday off to do assessment (max 42), I am back to the schedule. The schedule is getting really hard. It started with the first set of 40, again my max as of my assessment was 42. So, I did pretty well, I hit four of the five sets. The last one being scheduled at 40, I was only able to do 27. Overall, this is not bad for a Middle-aged man. The scheduled and results ( ) were:
- 40 (40)
- 32 (32)
- 30 (30)
- 25 (25)
- 40 (27)
The total scheduled ws 167, in which I did 154. Overall my results for the previous days for the program are 154, 124, 112, 111, 92, 106, 90, 67, 71, 50. In my mind each day is about 10 more push-ups then the previous, but this last day jumped to 30 more, see why it hurts?
Push-ups, Reassessment
0After three weeks of a six week program on obtaining 100 consecutive push-ups, I am at 42 in a row. After two and four weeks, the program wants to you to retest your progress. I skipped week one, so I felt that this time was good as any for my reassessment. When I started the program, I did my initial test of 25 push-ups. That was doing as many push-ups you can do to exhaustion. Today I did 42 or an improvement of 17 push-ups in three weeks. Not bad for a middle-aged man.
