Blood Pressure

0

I have not posted my blood pressure in a while. I have been taking and journaling it. So, today I decided to post it. It is close to one of my resolutions, which is to have my pressure be at or under 120/80 and a pulse at or under 50. Today it was 119/79 with a pulse of 52. I have a small graph of my progress.

Bike Ride – 27.5 Miles

0

Being Labor Day, I decided to wake up early for a laborous ride. I just got my road bike and I am still getting use to it. Not to over do it, I wanted to ride some 20-30 miles before the heat. I left at 6:30am and rode 27.5 miles around town. It was kinda of tiring, but that may be due to being morning. I am not a morning person. See the results from my ride at motionbased.com

Local Hike 24.5 Miles in the SGM (Preparation for Mt. Whitney)

0

I planned a hike last Saturday in the San Gabriel’s, but my hip flared up, so I rescheduled to make the hike the following Friday (August 31, 2007). See Pictures.

I left the house at 5:00 and was on the Manzanita trail at 6:10 am and it was warm for early morning, but the whole hike seem to cool off as I went. The first leg up to Vincent Gap was nice and easy. I saw one large buck deer and many squirrels and lizards. I stopped at Vincent Gap to eat a little and started my accent to the top of Baden-Powell. I really did not have a hard time, either because I am in better shape or for this hike I used my trekking poles. I saw the only humans (two) on this trail for the whole day.

Weight Loss – 34 pounds. No Longer Obese!

0

Today I reached a goal of 196 lbs! I started at 230lb on 4/2/7. This goal meets one of my resolutions. Since I am at the weight of 196 lbs and using BMI index, I am no longer considered obese (only overweight)!

New Road Bike

I have been wanting to have a road bike. I was talking to my friend Michael Sbihli, who just happen to be selling his older one. He wanted to purchase some very high end components, but his lovely wife Lauren is due with their first baby very soon and they are down to one income. This is a nice bike (look at the picture). It is a GT Fury and is a bit old, but one fine bike. It has flames painted on it, so it must be fast (grin).

I had my first ride this last Friday. I rode to work in the morning, it is about 10.5 mile. We have bike lockers at work, so I can lock up my bike, walk in to the lockerroom and showered, got dressed and complete my day then rode home. The ride home was better then the coming to work, (I think I am not good at exercise in the morning).

My speed is about four miles faster than my mountain bike. If may be due to me wanting to ride faster. See my results at my account with MotionBased .

Wellness Challenge – 31 miles for the week

0

This has been a disappointing week. I set out to hike 22 miles on Saturday. However, my right hip has flared up. I decided to postpone the hike until this Friday. Thirty one miles is a bit low in the Wellness Challenge, but I did not walk but 3 miles from Friday through Sunday.

I am afraid on my hip getting worst. On long walks it might shut down on me leaving me with some big pain. This last week believing the pain is inflammation, I started using Ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation, but I do not sense that it has any affect.

22 Mile Hike (loop)

0

This Saturday, August 25th the planned hike is South Fork (SF) Camp to Vincent Gap (Angeles Crest Highway), up to Baden-Powell, then over to Islip Saddle back down to South Fork. This is almost 22 miles of hiking see the image below. The plan is leave Lancaster at 5:00 am. My friend Curt wants to do just a part of the hike, because he has a family party to attend and cannot do the whole hike. If this works out, we plan to place a car at Vincent’s Gap the night before allowing him (and others) to leave either after the 5.5 mile leg (Manzanta Trail) or up Baden-Powell (then back down).

Softball

Last night I played again. It has been three weeks. I had missed the first one by going to my high school reunion and we had two byes. I played catcher and hit only one of four. I was not happy with my performance. I need some better shoes (cleats). I slipped all over the place.

We lost again, this time 30-10. We have not won one yet.

Weight

I am still wanting to lose weight but have not been that disciplined. Since the goal of reaching 200 lbs, I have managed to lose only 2 more pounds in two weeks. I managed to get the scale to weight me in at 198 lbs this week. I have switched scales. I was using a medical scale, but at work there is the digital scale at work (whole pounds only) that is for legal tender. I believe it is very accurate.

This morning I set out at 5:00am and starting walking. I walked for 22 miles. this is the longest I have ever walked. I picked it, because it is the distance of the hike of Mt Whitney.
