End of the 10 Day Cleanse Using Advocare (13.6 pounds)
0At the end of Wednesday night was the last of my 10 days of cleanse. I was using Advocare. The plan had me eat vegetables and fruits. I was allowed more, but stayed to those two items until dinner. At dinner, I would eat meat. I had hamburger patties and veggie patties, a steak, some chicken always with some cooked vegetables. I only drink water for 10 days. No coffee, no alcohol, no bread, no crackers, or no deserts. I had to pass on pizza again and again.
The results are in. I started 10 days ago at 208.8 pounds and when I woke up on Thursday (the day after), to weigh in, I was at 195.2 pounds for a weight loss of 13.6 pounds. That is over a pound a day. As well, on Wednesday, I went to a health screening at work with Healthwaves (my friend Tracy Whittaker runs it), so here are some of my numbers:
- Blood Pressure: 115/73 (normal 120/80)
- Total Cholesterol: 159 (normal <200)
- HDL Cholesterol 52 (normal 40-59)
- Non-Fasting Glucose 105, (normal <140)
To sum up Advocare, I liked it. The program and self control seemed to work. I decided I could handle this for 10 days or anything for 10 days. I am encouraged and will continue on the weigh loss part which is 14 days.
15,000,000 Steps
0Today I have walked over 15,000,000 steps. I have been tracking my steps now for over 1,200 days. That is on average 12,461 steps a day. Each day and every day. A simple calculation of steps to miles is about 7,340 miles! That is like virtually walking from Lancaster to New York, New York and back to Lancaster, and almost back to New York.
Day 9 of the Cleanse
2Today is starting of day nine of the cleanse. Not much to report except some more weight loss. Today I weighed in at 200.4 for a 0.6 pounds lost. From the last time I lost weight, Saturday morning (201.0). I gained about four pounds after my 60 mile cycling event on Saturday, my body has shed that water gain. In nine days, I have lost 8.4 pounds. That is cool and I continue to be encouraged.
Day 8 of the Cleanse
0Well, I have been good with the cleanse following the requirements. I got on the scale Saturday morning and was at 201. I went to ride the Antelope Valley ride (60 miles in 4 hours). When I got home, I weigh in at 204.8. Hum… I expect water lost, but I know I like to retain fluids for days after a long ride. I eat normal, just some pork, wings, and veggies. For dinner I had a Cobb salad. Sunday, I still weighted in 204.8 and Monday as well the same at 204.8. We did have Mother’s day at Aunt Claire’s and I behaved myself, well maybe, a little too much ham, but it was good. So, back to the cleanse. I did the fiber drink and started with fruit. I will have salad for lunch and a normal dinner.
Antelope Valley Ride
1On Saturday, I rode with Chris Brady on the Antelope Valley Ride. The ride is about 60 miles, (we rode 57.8). It started out from George Lane Park to 60 West and up to the aqueduct (all gates were opened). Over to Johnson Road which was a good hard climb over to Lake Elizabeth Road. Up to 3-points and out to Neenach and back on Lancaster Road. The wind was in good form, making all west and south parts so much harder. My right leg was problematic, the right hip and calf hurt prior to starting. It is a old problem, but this year has not been an issue. As I rode back, I started to feel odd, like I was going to hurl. I did not, but riding up 110th west my right quad started to cramp. I have never got a cramp before. The only thing I eat that day was some oatmeal prior to starting and on the ride about five bananas and a couple of oranges. I did not eat any of the cookies or crackers. Finish at four hours and four minutes. Not a good time, but the wind was strong. Had lunch with Chris. It was pulled pork, some apple slices and more water. When I got home, I weigh myself and I was at 204.8, started the morning at 201. I figured that long ride would allow me to rid a lot of water, but I guess not.
Day 5, Cleanse
2Starting day five of the cleanse with a weigh in of 201.0 or 0.6 pounds from yesterday. I went to bed hungry and when I woke up, I was hungry. This morning lots of fruit, a banana, about a whole basket of strawberries, a pair, and my Avocare pills. For lunch, my wife, Teri made me a wicked salad, that was so good.
Tomorrow, I will ride in the AV conservancy cycling ride, Chris Brady and myself (anyone else) will do the metric ride or about 62 miles. I think it is going to be warm. The ride is supported, so will be fun.
Weight Loss, Day 4
3Day 4, good weightless day. I rode home from work yesterday and it was warm. I got on the scale at 201.4. I figured that was water loss from riding. I had a salad and chicken for dinner. This morning, I got on the scale, at 201.6! So, Sunday I was at 208.8. Starting the fourth day the weight loss total is 7.2 pounds. I think my weightloss will not continue at this rate, but it is encouraging.
Weight Loss, as of Start of Day Three
0This morning is the start of day three of the cleanse and weight loss. Getting on the scale this morning I weighted in at 205.4. When I started I was 208.8. That is 3.4 pounds in three full days. That is encouraging!
So far, I have been hungry and using my will power mostly. I have been eating, but really only fruit and some veggies and nuts during the day. I have a reduced dinner of lean meat and veggies. Been going to sleep early (for me). I am not going crazy it seems to be OK, but habits are the hardest thing to stop. I want to make coffee, I want to snack… I want to…
I cycled in this morning, according to my technology that is 750 calories. Doing that going home seems like a good way to keep losing weight. This morning, I did not have much energy in my cycling, but that is OK.
Weight Loss, a Start for May
1It been a while, since I blogged or wanted to lost weight. I need to get serious about my weight. I have been cycling a lot, some 750 miles this year alone, mostly with my friend Chris Brady and he has been serious about losing weight (30 lbs I think). I am so much slower (because I am heavy), so it is time.
I am starting in the beginning of the month of May. The starting weight is 208.8. Monday 2nd, I am starting a 10 day cleanse. I will be using advocare. It was recommend to me by the Kelly’s who are friends of Steve Radford, my supplier and now friend.
Day one, Monday. I weighted in at 207.7, and cycled to work (it was really cold). I drink the fiber drink when I got to work. I followed that with lots of water. No coffee and that seems fine. It is habit to make coffee when I get in, so I found myself turning to go make it, not so much wanting to drink it.
Today will be mostly fruit. I have grapes and apples. I do get to have lean protein tonight, so chicken will be BBQed tonight. Yum.
Abvio’s Cyclemeter, a Review
4Do you have an IPhone?, I do I have owned a couple of different versions. One thing is that I always true is that I ride with my phone. Being a geek, I like to track my rides. I have carried my phone other GPS units to track my rides. I have a couple of Garmin’s, the Forerunner 305 and 60CSX. I even have a mount for the 60CSX on my bike.
But, then came along the iPhone app called Cyclemeter, from Abvio they also make Runmeter and Walkmeter. Really they are all the same app, so you can use Cyclemeter for other walking and running. Works with iPhone 3G/3GS/4.
I am very impressed with its features and it is only five bucks. My Garmin’s cost so much more. I am no longer using my Garmin’s when I ride. I just sold my Forerunner and I am keeping my 60CSX for hiking and will be removing the mount from my bike.
I have been using Cyclemeter since April. At the time, I was looking for a GPS-enabled iPhone app that would allow me to track and map my upcoming 200 mile ride to Reedley near Fresno. I used it every day when walking the dog, or if I ran. Testing proved it is a drain on the battery, because it is using the iPhone’s GPS and is always running, so I also invested and tested in a Imax Power module (gives me additional 12-16 hours when connected to my iPhone), which I place in my top tube bag, with the iPhone sync cable coming out and connecting to the bottom of the iPhone. My phone is mounted on a Perfect Fit mount.
Cyclemeter utilizes GPS to track your ride route, your speed, your distance, average speed, etc. I love that it has a stopwatch screen with big giant dashboard numbers. They recently, added automatic stop detection which is cool. If I stop to drink or talk, it does not count against me.
I have ridden numerous times using dedicated Garmin GPS units. The total distance and average speed numbers are always consistent. My favorite feature is when I complete a ride and press “done”, it publishes my ride information to my Facebook Wall. You can change this to not post at all, post when you start, when you stop. Potential for posting overload, so I just choose to autopost when a ride is finished.
The app tracks each event and you assign it to a particular ride, then when you ride the same course, it can tell you in real time and after if you are improving or not. It continually records your time, location, distance, elevation, and speed.
Monitor your progress with up to 20 configurable announcements including distance, time, speed, elevation, climb, and more. I configured Cyclemeter to tell me distance each mile and speed. When I start a ride, it posts the start of the ride to Facebook, or Twitter, and/or email to share location on Google Maps, automatically updating every 5 minutes. You can have emails automatically sent as you ride to keep family and friends notified of your progress and location. I kid my wife, when the app does not keep updating my whereabouts, she can tell the police where to find the body.
Announcements is the coolest thing, out on a long hot ride and Cyclemeter sending the information to Facebook, my wife, for example, will comment on Facebook and the app will convert her text message to an audible announcement, so I become encouraged to hear comments on the ride that people actually take the time to comment to encourage me.
The latest feature is posting the finished ride and all the meta data to my fitness Google calendar on my blog. I love that I do not have to take the time to do it.
I requested a feature that I would love to see. If other riders are using Cyclemeter, I would like to see in real time their whereabouts. This came to mind, that my buddy Chris and I started this ride and he was gone. During the ride, I have no idea if I ever got close to catching him.
