Run – Aqueduct

0

Last night, I got out to run. I talked Tracy, one of my fitness partners to join me. We set out at 6:00pm at the aqueduct, and there was no wind, that is rare. We started running west from 60th Street West, until we reached the pump station, that is about 1.5 miles. We walked for the first half mile (to warm up, after stretching), then ran one mile. I was experiencing some discomfort with my shins. At the mid point, we walked a 1/4 mile, then ran for 1.5 miles back to the gate. At the end we did a 1/2 mile walk for cool down.

Tonight’s game, well we won 15-13. We played much better as a team. I did not help overall with my batting or throwing. I threw one over the first baseman’s head from 20 feet, (I could not believe it). During warm up, I could not control my throwing. My batting was bad. I grounded out three times, walked once. I suck.

Rachel picked me from work and dropped me off at the park. I arrived early and most of the other players arrived minutes before the game started. I was shaky, I need to eat prior to the game. The last food I eat was at 10:45 and that is too long without eating.

Softball – Lost

0

Tonight’s game did not go so well. I played bad. I grounded out twice, walked once, and then finally hit a single. The team we were playing had a great infield. They stopped everything. We lost by the mercy rule, 28-8. I felt that I ran like a slug. I just seem to get a bit slow, or my expectation is getting higher, I am not sure.

I been walking every day with my pedometer (now for 69 days). I have a virtual goal to walk across America. I did not notice, Tracy pointed it out to me, that I have walked over 1,000,000 steps or about 500 miles. As of today, I have walked 1,075,521 and 526 miles.

I am walking from Santa Monica Pier (California) to Jacksonville, Florida as my goal. As of today I have virtually walked past Tucson.

Hike – Mt Rosamond

0

I am involved in the Wellness Challenge at work and Jeff who is running it, but together a hike up to Mt Rosamond. It is only 15 minutes from the house. It was a really small hike, only three miles round trip and 600 foot elevation gain. I expected to see a handful of folks from work, but only Jeff, Tracy and Sean joined in for the hike. I wish I would have brought my dog, he would have loved it!

Softball Game

Tonight we played another game. Last week they invoked the mercy rule, this week they did the same, but to the other team. We won 20-5! I walked the first two time up and then singled for three more times. The last time up, I popped up and the second baseman dropped the ball. I was tagged out at home.

Overall I was sore before the game and I did not warm up my legs before. The first chance I ran from the catcher position, it was stiff. It took me a couple of runs before I felt loose.

Hike – South Fork Campground to the Devil’s Chair

0

I wanted to take out the high school boys from church to get them out and create a better relationships with them. I scheduled this hike about five weeks ago. I did not realize that this weekend was Easter and we would have the Wednesday before off from the high school group. Making it hard to promote. That was true; not one kid joined me. I headed by myself to Bayen-Powell. I got geared up and headed up the trail. There was a lot of snow and the trail, and I was not sure of the trail path. Since I was hiking by myself it was not smart to continue, so I left and called Teri that I was changing plans and would hike from South Fork Campground to the Devil’s Chair.

The hike at South Fork was great. The weather was super. I was alone but did see another hiker and did meet three college students. I took plenty of pictures and listened to my Ipod the whole way.

Tonight we played at 7:45pm and it was a nice night. Not too hot nor cold. We started out well, but gave away the game. The game was called (mercy rule), some 13 minutes before the normal end time. We lost 26 to 11. I did well. My hip gave me a little pain, but overall I felt good. I could run and did so. At bat I was 5 of 5. All singles.

Bone Density

Today I had my bone density tested by Tracy from Healthwaves. She tested my density about six months ago. I was then -0.8 and today I was -0.5. That is an improvement of 0.3. Which is all good. I guess all the hiking, walking and even running has improved my density.

Tour de Sewer

0

The Lion’s Club of Bell Gardens has put on the Tour de Sewer for 23 years. This ride is 15, 30 or 62 miles. I rode with Jim Pike (we are married to cousins, Teri and Mary Jo). We arrived at 7:30 at the John Anson Ford Park in Bell Gardens, and got our t-shirts, bibs, entered the raffle, and Jim purchased a riding jersey. We mounted our bikes and got in line to start the ride around 8:00 am.

The first easy six miles was on a bike path along the river, then over the dam and on to the street. The first climb was not expected. When I looked at the ride’s website, they had an elevation graph and it had one spike. When I reread it, the only graph was for the 30 mile ride. We were doing the 62 mile ride. Pettalling along towns of the streets of Whitter, Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, La Habra Heights, there were some hills. The ride was rated as moderate. It did not take to long to notice the town names ending in “Heights”, there is a reason for that. They are hilly. Jim and I climbed those hills. It was a bigger set of climbs then I expected, but we made each one of them. We continued back to the 605 freeway’s bike path along the San Gabriel River. We petalled down to around the 105 freeway and back up the 710 freeway bike path where we started.

Overall, we did near 62 miles, a Mertic Century (100 KM) in about five hours. We did stop at each rest stop and had orange slices, grapes, bannahs and Famous Amos cookies. I had refill one water bottle, once. The day was a bit cold, so I did not need to drink too much.
