Hike South Fork Camp to the Devils Chair

by douglaspaulwade on May.15, 2009, under Hiking, Middle-Aged Man

Today I got out on a hike with my friend Rich Coulter. He is like me and trying to improve his health and has a goal to hike Mt Whitney later this year.

We got out early and I picked him up at 6:30 at his house. We traveled to to South Fork Camp at the base of the San Gabriels and did a three mile hike up and back to the Devil’s Chair which is at the top of the Devil’s Punch Bowl. For a total of just over six miles.

My dog Chip came with us and he was so excited to get out and get on the trail. Chip loved running around in the streams, while we tried not to fall in.

New Fitness Committment

by admin on Apr.01, 2009, under Uncategorized

Ok, I have been adding weight. I managed to get down to 186 lbs and now I am back up to 203 lbs. I will be turning 50, (yes, the big Five-O),  on June 29th, so have a desire to get my my weight down. I am committing to be back to 16,000 steps a day of walking. Been averaging 10K a day for the last four months.

I have good excuses, but they are excuses, mostly from working 60 hours a week. I need a big goal to aim at, but I do not have a big goal yet. So, I am going to eat better, drink less, and exercise more. Since, it is starting to warm up, I will be cycling (street and mountain), any takers? My knees are sore, so running may be limited.

So, starting April 1, I am recommitting to fitness. It is a good thing.

Portrait of my Hannah

by douglaspaulwade on Mar.28, 2009, under Photography

Hannah is not a senior but she loves her picture taken. I set up my equipment in the garage and took a few of her. I had her turn, jump, and sway her hair. It was fun.

Senior Portrait – Jake Wade

by douglaspaulwade on Mar.28, 2009, under Photography

Jake is so easy going. I know he would prefer not to sit (or stand) for these pictures. But he endures the event.

Jake Wade is not related to us, it is kinda of strange that I know three Wade families in our area.

I Took a Third Place

by douglaspaulwade on Feb.01, 2009, under Photography

Since, I work a lot, I like to have a few hobbies. On of the those hobbies is photography. So, to help me with my photos, I joined the Lancaster Photography Association. I try to attend when I can. They meet once a month. They have a competition and there were over 200 photographs entered in all the levels and media (print, digital, slides). I enter three photos and one received a third place.

It is a humbling event. I often think my photographs are better then those that win, but I am trying to figure out what a contest like this wants, which is way different than the photos I want to take. They like puppies, kittens in a tree and birds on a stick. However, this meeting was very different. The level of photos was very good and the judge seemed to pick the better stuff.

This months theme, was “close-up”, you can see the results from the meeting.

Flower 1, Flower 2, Leaf- This image won third place and it was not my favorite.
